Last Saturday (12 October 2013) we were asked to take photos during the 2013 Meiringspoort Half Marathon. After getting up bright and early and heading toward De Rust, we were able to take some great shots thanks to a great vibe, a well organized event & of course the beautiful scenery.
We have uploaded all our hard work to our gallery where you can view and/or purchase the photos of your liking.
We have also split up the photos according to race / time and you are able to search the photos using your race number to quickly find the shots featuring you.

The 19th edition of the Absa KKNK has photographically been probably my busiest yet. Adobe Lightroom indicates that I’ve pressed the shutter of my 5DMk3 about 4000 times!
My Canon 5Dmk3 is relatively new – I bought it in August 2012 from Orms Photographic and this was my first festival with the new camera body. Two features of the new Mk3, the silent shutter as well as the improved light sensitivity of its sensor made it the ideal camera for this kind of assignment – I was excited to see how it would perform. I wasn’t disappointed – I was often shooting with ISO settings of between 4000 and 25600 and the sensor’s performance was phenomenal. It performed that well in low light that I actually stopped taking my Canon 600 flash with me.
This year I wasn’t involved in any photo exhibition, but Grand Street Studios employed 5 other photographers to help document the Absa KKNK. It was great seeing how their skills developed over the past 9 days. (Their photos can be viewed on the Absa KKNK Facebook page.)

Behalwe vir die fotografering van die fees is die Absa KKNK vir my ‘n geleentheid om so tussen die fotonemery deur op ‘n persoonlike vlak gevoelens te ervaar en probeer sin maak van wat ek sien – iets van ‘n ontdekking en ontginning van menswees. ‘n Wonderlike voorreg wat moeilik is om te beskryf.

Being a photographer has it unexpected perks – last weekend I photographed Talisman Hire’s 20th conference at Champagne Sports Resort in the Drakensberg. Running a small time business can be challenging but seeing how professional the Talisman guys were was inspirational. My job was to take photos of the events – here I had a nice surprise with two of their guest speakers (Peter van Kets and Francois Muscat) talking about topics that also interested me.
Peter van Kets made his mark in the world of adventure by winning the 5,438km unsupported Atlantic Rowing Race 2007/8 (pairs) with friend Bill Godfrey. In January 2012 he and friend Braam Malherbe raced unsupported across Antarctica to the South Pole – his stories of vasbyt under extreme circumstances had quite a few of the tough guys from the building industry wiping tears from their cheeks
Francois Muscat from WSI (We Simplify the Internet) spoke about using the social media to market your business. Something about him – Francois optimised the site(INTERNET SOLUTIONS) for the keywords “Internet Solutions”, an extremely competitive term. On August 24, 2007, he was able to get www.is.co.za to rank first in Google with 536 million competitors and third in Yahoo! with 230 million competitors. This impressive accomplishment earned Francois the WSI Excellence Award for “Excellence in SEO.”
Francois knowledge on this topic is phenomenal but if I had to try summarize his message it would be how he emphasized the importance of quality content when engaging with potential clients in the different social media interfaces. Supplying relevant quality content is the way to convert potential customers. Interrupting the viewer with adverts whilst watching interesting content is something of the past. Decisions gets influenced by reviews from friends and peers as well as expert reviews.
